Miller,
Mannix, Schachner & Hafner, LLC
represents several Towns and Villages in
various capacities, including
representation of Town Boards, Planning
Boards, Zoning Boards of Appeals and
general Town counsel
representation. We have also
represented many Towns and Counties as
special counsel for particular
matters. This representation
combines our extensive experience in
environmental law, land use and zoning
issues, municipal finance, general
municipal law and civil
litigation. Because we are a
nationally recognized bond counsel, the
municipalities we represent can issue
bonds, bond anticipation notes and
similar financing instruments without
engaging separate counsel.
Although we have experience in all forms
of municipal litigation, we believe that
an important part of our role is to
enable Towns to avoid litigation by
ensuring that their decisions are made
in a proper and lawful manner. We
are often able to avoid legal problems
altogether or solve them before they
become topics of public controversy or
litigation. This saves both time
and money, and promotes positive
relationships with constituents.
We are
available to attend all regular and
special meetings of Town Boards,
Planning Boards and Zoning Boards of
Appeal, subject to your needs.
However, we have found that many
municipalities prefer to have us
"on call" to be available when
necessary rather than attend every
meeting. Several of our attorneys
have municipal experience, so it is
unlikely that you will ever be in a
situation where we are unable to attend
a meeting or promptly address any issue
that arises. We recognize that
municipal officials are often called
upon to respond to the public on short
notice and we pride ourselves on
providing timely advice so that you can
maintain good relations with your
constituents.
